Hillary on "SNL": Well, that happened

The presidential candidate's appearance was neither embarrassing nor inspired.

Hillary Clinton made a surprise appearance Saturday on the opening of "Saturday Night Live," hosted by Ellen Page from "Juno." Neither inspired nor embarrassing, it was just kind of there (like the comedy show itself, some might say, or like Clinton's embattled campaign). I find Clinton's attempts at light humor to be occasionally cringe-inducing -- she's better at the pithy jab -- but I appreciate anyone willing to poke fun at herself. "I simply love Amy's impression of me," she said, as Amy Poehler joined her onstage in H.C. mode. (And they were wearing the same dress. How embarrassing.) Here's an excerpt of the exchange:

Poehler: How's the campaign going?

Clinton: The campaign is going very well. Very, very well. Why? What have you heard?

Poehler: Nothing!

Clinton flexes her funny bone again when she appears Monday night on "The Daily Show."
