While watching those plucky "American Idol" whippersnappers singing and dancing to bad Barry Manilow hits might make you cringe, tonight's extravaganza, "American Idol: Idol Gives Back" (7:30 p.m. EDT on Fox), should be applauded for its honorable goal of raising money for charity. We're not talking chump change, either: Harnessing the financial power of its countless enthusiastic fans, last year "Idol Gives Back" raised $75 million for a handful of charities. This year, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon and Robin Williams make appearances, and Fergie and Heart perform "Barracuda." Yes, cheese tastes better when it's melted for a good cause!

Also…

"Jean-Michel Cousteau: Ocean Adventures" concludes with a trip to the Amazon (8 p.m. EDT on PBS, check listings). Then, "Top Chef" airs at 10 p.m. on Bravo, while the finale of "High School Reunion" airs at 10 p.m. on TV Land. And fittingly enough, on tonight's episode of "Lewis Black's Root of All Evil," Black and his comic minions compare the relative evils of "American Idol" to high school (10:30 p.m. on Comedy Central).
