"I was twirling and throwing my hat in the air. It shows people that the leaders in the Army think it's important to pick the best qualified, not just the men."

-- Lt. Gen. Claudia Kennedy, quoted by the New York Times, reacting to the news that Lt. Gen. Ann E. Dunwoody has been nominated to become a four-star general in the U.S. Army. If confirmed by the Senate, Gen. Dunwoody will be the first woman in the history of the U.S. armed forces to achieve that rank. In 1997, Kennedy, who is now retired, became the first woman in the Army to achieve the rank of three-star general.
