ST. PAUL -- With Hurricane Gustav fast approaching, the White House announced on Sunday that President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney will not be attending the Republican Convention here this week.

Bush and Cheney had been scheduled to address the convention on Monday, but instead they'll be dealing with the hurricane -- Bush is going to Texas on Monday, where he'll be meeting with evacuees and rescue workers.

Obviously, given the unpopularity of the Bush administration, there's a political upside to this for John McCain's campaign. As an unnamed Republican consultant observed to Politico's Jonathan Martin, what this means is "A whole series of Obama ads now in the dumper."

There are likely more hurricane-related changes to the convention on the way as well; two unnamed Republican officials told CNN, "there will be some substantial adjustments."
