Mississippi's governor seeking support in Iowa and New Hampshire

Published May 22, 2009 4:52PM (EDT)

The WaPo's Chris Cillizza reports that Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour recently found an excuse to visit Iowa to do a fundraiser for that state's Republican party, and will be heading to New Hampshire next month to do the same. Seems the gubna is shopping around for political support for a potential 2012 run.

How fitting would it be if a Mississippi governor an ex-lobbyist who had no governing experience prior to running for the statehouse were the next GOP presidential nominee? It would confirm that the Republican Party has been reduced to its core. This is not the sort of broadening of the tent the Republicans needs right now.
