"Senator, what about the unborn?!"

Antiabortion activists interrupt Sonia Sotomayor's Supreme Court nomination hearing

Published July 13, 2009 4:50PM (EDT)

The circus that is Sonia Sotomayor's Supreme Court nomination hearing is certainly under way. No sooner did Sen. Dianne Feinstein begin her opening remarks than an antiabortion protester interrupted to shout: "Senator, what about the unborn?!" The rest of his rant is fairly unintelligible --  as Sen. Patrick Leahy quickly shouted over him, "The police will remove that man!" -- but the Associated Press managed to make out a reference to abortion as "genocide." Soon after, a second protester cut into the hearing to shout: "Abortion is murder" and "Sonia Sotomayor! Aborto es asesinado! Abortion is murder!" Both men were quickly escorted out.

Thank you, sirs, for your thoughtful contributions. Now, please, can we leave all further interrogation to the senators?
