One year ago today, Barack Obama was sworn into office as president of the United States. It's not exactly the happiest of anniversaries for him, though: In lieu of a present, the voters of Massachusetts gave him a big lump of coal last night.

It will be interesting to see how the White House handles the combination of the anniversary and the loss in Massachusetts; Obama's scheduled to make public remarks twice today, so we'll see then whether he addresses either subject head on.
