City Council members in the left-leaning city of Berkeley are considering a resolution in support of accused Wikileaker Pfc. Bradley Manning.

Some politicians and pundits consider the soldier's alleged release of classified information to WikiLeaks an act of treason.

But some advisers to the Berkeley City Council say he's a hero who deserves a medal.

The city's Peace and Justice Commission previously said Manning exposed "war crimes" by allegedly leaking a 2007 video of a U.S. helicopter crew gunning down 11 men in Baghdad. The Pentagon concluded the troops acted appropriately.

Manning, who is being held in a military brig in Virginia, has not commented publicly on whether he is the source of the leaks.

Anti-war groups have rallied behind him and are raising money for his defense.
