BEIJING (AP) — A human rights group says another veteran Chinese activist has been charged with subversion as Beijing tries to prevent the spread of Arab Spring-style democratic uprisings.

The Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy said Saturday that Chen Xi was arrested Nov. 29 and formally charged Friday. The Hong Kong-based center said he was accused of writing 30 essays that incited subversion.

Another activist, Chen Wei, was sentenced Friday to nine years in prison on subversion charges.
