RICHMOND (AP) — Police in Virginia searched on Christmas Eve for a man suspected of killing two people in Richmond and then fleeing in a stolen SUV with a 2-year-old boy in the backseat.

The Virginia State Police issued an Amber Alert at 9:39 p.m. EST Saturday for the boy, identified as Kaiden Gage Burnside. They described him as having short blond hair and blue eyes, and wearing a red plaid shirt, a cream vest, green corduroy slacks and white tennis shows.

"The child is believed to be in extreme danger," the alert says. The child was last seen on N. 35th Street in Richmond.

Police described the suspect as a black man in his mid-20s, 5-foot-8 and 160 pounds, with black hair and wearing dark jeans and a black zip-up sweat shirt with a hood.

Police said the suspect and the boy might be traveling in a 2012 white GMC terrain SUV, license number XCZ-6757.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/svXlqT) that a man and a woman were found shot at a multi-family residence in Church Hill at about 5 p.m. Saturday. Authorities said the fleeing suspect then stole an SUV that had been left on the street with its motor running and the child inside.

"We don't believe that he knew there was a child in the back seat," Richmond police Maj. Steve Drew told the newspaper.

Police said they don't believe the shooting was random but have not released additional details about the victims or their potential relationship to the suspect.

The Amber Alert said anyone with information should call the Richmond Police Department at (804) 646-0744 or the Virginia State Police at 1-800-822-4453. Information may also be found at www.vaamberalert.com.
