BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — A Chicago-bound United Airlines regional jet made an emergency landing in Vermont shortly after takeoff after an engine failed and a report of smoke in the cargo hold.

Burlington International Airport operations specialist Patrick Sharrow says United Airlines Flight 3785 landed safely at 6:28 a.m. EST Wednesday after being in the air for about 10 minutes. No one was reported injured.

The CRJ700 plane can carry up to 70 people, but it was not immediately known how many were on board.

Sharrow says maintenance staff was working on the plane. He says an initial inspection showed no confirmation that there had been any smoke or fire.
