31 Inmates Killed In Northern Mexico Prison Fight

CIUDAD VICTORIA, Mexico (AP) — Authorities says 31 inmates have been killed by fighting in a prison in northern Mexico.

Tamaulipas state Public Safety Department says the inmates were killed with makeshift knives during a fight Wednesday in a state prison in the Gulf Coast city of Altamira.

The department said in a brief statement that another 13 prisoners were wounded. It says 22 of the inmates killed were serving sentences for state crimes and nine for federal offenses.
