Dozens Of Vehicles Collide In Foggy Texas Pileup

PORT ARTHUR, Texas (AP) — Authorities say multiple people are injured but no one has died in a mass pileup involving as many as 40 vehicles on a highway in Southeast Texas.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Department Deputy Rod Carroll says at least 10 ambulances have been dispatched to the scene of the Thursday morning collision on Highway 73 just west of Port Arthur, about 80 miles east of Houston.

Carroll later told KFDM-TV that no one has been killed in the wrecks.

Carroll says the collisions were caused "by poor visibility due to mixture of fog and smoke from marsh wildfires." Fires swept through dry marshlands in parts of Jefferson County earlier this week.

Further details were not immediately available.
