KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Afghan police say a group of insurgents has tried to storm a government building in eastern Afghanistan, setting off a firefight that has killed at least four people.

A police statement says two officers and two suicide bombers have been killed.

Afghan forces were still battling two other attackers.

The assault took place on a government building in Sharan, the capital of Paktika province, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) south of Kabul.

Paktika province borders Pakistan and is one of the main routes for Taliban fighters infiltrating into eastern Afghanistan from their sanctuaries across the border.
