MILWAUKEE (AP) — The battle lines remain as stark as ever in Wisconsin as Democrats wind up their push to gather enough signatures to force Republican Gov. Scott Walker into a recall election.

Democrats need more than a half-million signatures by Tuesday to trigger an election. They won't provide an update on how many names they have until they turn them in next week but have asked volunteer signature collectors to stop work on Friday.

Democrats are angry with Walker for introducing a law that stripped most public workers of almost all their union rights.

Walker supporters on Wednesday berated signature gatherers in front of a Milwaukee casino for forcing another expensive election. But volunteer Sonja O'Brien says she collected 23 signatures in an hour and a half.
