HOUSTON (AP) — An 18-month-old boy is missing after an SUV was stolen from a Walmart parking lot in Houston with him strapped in the back seat.

Houston Police spokesman Kese (KEES) Smith says Evan Montgomery Lamar Miller's 7-year-old cousin jumped out of the green, 1996 Jeep Cherokee when the car thief climbed in. The toddler was still inside when the man drove away.

Smith says he doesn't believe the car thief is related to the family. It is unclear if the man knew Evan was inside.

The Houston Chronicle reports that Evan's mother left the engine running while she stopped at a Walmart to withdraw money from an ATM.

An Amber Alert has been issued for Evan, who is 3 feet tall and weighs about 25 pounds.
