DETROIT (AP) — The recently jailed president of the company that operates the Ambassador Bridge says it has completed most of a project to relieve truck congestion on Detroit streets.
Dan Stamper told reporters Wednesday that state Transportation Department officials must finish a ramp and give the company permits to connect a nearby street to a two-lane truck road.
Stamper and bridge owner Manuel Moroun were jailed last week for contempt for failing to follow a judge's orders to finish the project. The Michigan Court of Appeals is reviewing the order.
Transportation officials say the Gateway Project's contract calls for the company to deed the ramp property to Michigan. Spokesman Rob Morosi also says the truck road connection can't be completed because supports for a planned new bridge are too close.
