FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A 65-year-old lawyer arrested for carrying a loaded handgun aboard an American Airlines jet at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport has been released.

Judith Kenney's attorney says she has been released on her own recognizance after her Wednesday arrest. Dallas lawyer David Finn says his client carries a handgun for protection but had forgotten that it was in a computer bag she carried on board.

American Airlines spokesman Tim Smith said the plane was headed to a runway for takeoff when it was directed to return to the gate and was met by airport police.

Transportation Security Administration spokesman Greg Soule (SOOL) says security checkpoint screeners detected a gun in the woman's carry-on bag, but she "picked up the bag and left the checkpoint before the screening process was over."
