ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — A 32-year-old man who helped chase down the suspect in a string of murders of homeless men in Southern California will be given a $5,000 reward.

The Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs will give the reward to 32-year-old Donny Hopkins on Wednesday.

The association says Hopkins witnessed the brutal stabbing of 64-year-old John Berry outside an Anaheim fast food restaurant earlier this month and chased down the man suspected of being the killer.

Authorities arrested 23-year-old Iraq war veteran Itzcoatl Ocampo the night of Berry's murder. Prosecutors have charged the former Marine with the murders of four homeless men since December, a killing spree that terrorized northern Orange County.
