MOSCOW (AP) — Hundreds of cars flying white ribbons or white balloons are driving around Moscow’s Garden Ring in a show of support for a protest movement against Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

The cars are visible all along the 16-kilometer (nearly 10-mile) road circling central Moscow.

Organizers say they expect as many as 5,000 drivers to take part in Sunday’s demonstration to demand free and fair elections.

Tens of thousands of people attended two demonstrations in December to protest fraud in Russia’s parliamentary election that boosted results for Putin’s party.

Putin is running in a March 4 presidential election to reclaim the post he held from 2000 to 2008. He is expected to win but is under pressure to show he can win a fair election.

The next mass protest is planned for Saturday.
