WATERVILLE, Maine (AP) — Divers who searched a river and nearby stream in the Maine hometown of a missing toddler have turned up no new clues.
Department of Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says divers searching for Ayla Reynolds on Friday re-examined an area in the Kennebec River in Waterville that was last searched Jan. 11. He says they also searched a stretch of the Messalonskee Stream.
Ayla was 20 months old when she was reported missing from her father's home on Dec. 17. Her disappearance has been declared a crime.
Officials said Friday's dive yielded a backpack and a knife, neither of which was connected to the case.
Police have said they believe Ayla's father and two other adults who were in the home before Ayla went missing know more than they're telling investigators.
