COLEVILLE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say one person is dead and two others are injured following a propane-related explosion in military housing in Coleville near the U.S. Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center.
Marine spokesman Nicholas Mannweiler says the blast was reported at 9 p.m. PST Friday in a residence in the base's privatized family housing area, located about 30 miles from the Bridgeport base.
He says other structures were damaged and 14 families were displaced.
Mannweiler, the public affairs director for the base, says the two injured were rushed to area hospitals suffering from burns and shock. He did not have further details.
He says the blast was related to the housing unit's propane distribution system and was not associated with activities at the Marine base.
Officials say the base fire department and Antelope Valley volunteer fire department responded to the call, with CHP assisting.
