LOS ANGELES (AP) — A veteran Los Angeles police detective is in court listening to a prosecutor depict her as a heartbroken lover who murdered the rival who married the man she loved.

Stephanie Lazarus looked down Monday and took notes but showed no reaction as prosecutor Shannon Presby said during his opening statement that he would tie her to the killing from a bite, a bullet and a gun barrel.

Presby says the bite on victim Sherri Rasmussen's arm contained saliva which was matched to Lazarus' DNA more than two decades after the killing.

Lazarus has pleaded not guilty.

The cold case trial has drawn a standing-room-only crowd of press, the victim's family and members of the Police Department filling a downtown Los Angeles courtroom.
