HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania legislator is demanding the immediate resignation of fellow Democratic lawmaker who has been convicted on corruption charges.

Rep. Babette Josephs of Philadelphia said in remarks on the House floor Wednesday that Rep. Bill DeWeese's illegal use of legislative resources for political purposes is disgraceful and called on him to resign immediately. In her words, "He's a felon and he has to go."

Earlier Wednesday, DeWeese said he will step down from the House when he is sentenced, but that he hopes to get the proceeding postponed until after the November election so he can campaign for re-election.

A Dauphin County jury convicted DeWeese on Monday of five of the six counts against him — three counts of theft and one count each of conspiracy and conflict of interest.
