RICHARDSON, Texas (AP) — A suspected gunman is dead and a police officer and two bystanders are wounded after a shooting at a suburban Dallas transit station.

The incident happened about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at a Dallas Area Rapid Transit train station in Richardson.

Richardson police Sgt. Kevin Perlich (PUR'-lihk) says a man reported to be disorderly stepped from a DART bus and shot a DART police officer who challenged him. The officer, who returned fire, and two bystanders were wounded.

Fire Chief Alan Palomba says one bystander suffered life-threatening wounds and required cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the scene. Injuries to the officer and other bystander weren't considered life-threatening.

Perlich says the suspected gunman died of a gunshot wound to the head. It wasn't immediately clear if officers shot him or if it was self-inflicted.
