How The Major Stock Indexes Fared On Wednesday

Stocks staged an afternoon-long rally and closed higher Wednesday as Greece appeared to close in on the cost-cutting deal it needs to keep from defaulting on its national debt.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 5.75 points, or 0.04 percent, to close at 12,883.95.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 2.91 points, or 0.2 percent, to 1,349.96.

The Nasdaq composite index rose 11.78 points, or 0.4 percent, to 2,915.86.

For the week so far:

The Dow is up 21.72 points, or 0.2 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 5.06 points, or 0.4 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 10.20 points, or 0.4 percent.

For the year so far:

The Dow is up 666.39 points, or 5.5 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 92.36 points, or 7.3 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 310.71 points, or 11.9 percent.
