MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. (AP) — A man who fired a shotgun at an upstate New York courthouse has been wounded by a court officer.
Middletown police say the gunman went to the vestibule at City Court at about 9 a.m. Wednesday and shot at the security officers. They returned fire, hitting him at least once.
Police say they believe the man acted alone. They haven't released a possible motive.
A spokesman for the state Office of Court Administration tells The Associated Press that the man was armed with a 12-gauge shotgun. He says a court officer suffered a graze wound to one of his arms.
The spokesman says two officers were taken to a hospital for treatment of nonphysical trauma.
The gunman was also taken to a hospital. Authorities haven't released his name and condition.
