LOS ANGELES (AP) — Children are returning to a Los Angeles-area elementary school where the entire staff has been replaced following the arrests of two former teachers on charges of committing lewd acts with students in class.

Police are keeping an eye on Miramonte Elementary School Thursday morning as youngsters head to classes after a two-day closure.

About 100 parents and some children are protesting in front of the campus over the decision to replace the staff for the rest of the year — a move that is costing the school district millions of dollars.

Parents have been invited to meet the new principal and teachers at a morning assembly.
