CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands (AP) — Police in the U.S. Virgin Islands say they have solved an 11-year-old case involving a missing police officer.

St. Croix Police Chief Christopher Howell says a team of 70 police officers arrested five suspects on Friday, including one in Georgia with the help of federal agents. The suspects are accused of killing Police Corporal Wendell Williams, who disappeared on June 13, 2001.

Howell said Friday that he will not talk about the motive and that Williams' body will likely never be recovered. He said that Williams was kidnapped and tortured before he was killed.

The 49-year-old victim was last seen after ending his midnight shift.
