Retired Philly Officer Again Protests In Uniform

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A retired Philadelphia police captain who was arrested in uniform during an Occupy Wall Street protest in New York last year says he's not violating any law.

Sixty-year-old Ray Lewis joined Occupy Philadelphia protesters Monday in front of Independence Hall, again wearing his old uniform. He says he's speaking out against corporate greed and corruption and isn't breaking any law by wearing the uniform. Lewis retired in 2004.

Philadelphia police Commissioner Charles Ramsey told Lewis in a Nov. 23 letter to stop wearing the uniform, saying that retirees had no authority to do so and that he found Lewis' conduct "disrespectful." The Fraternal Order of Police also expressed concerns.

A police spokeswoman didn't immediately comment on Lewis' decision to protest Monday. A message left with the FOP wasn't immediately returned.
