WEATHERFORD, Texas (AP) — The first day of testimony has ended in the trial of a North Texas man accused of torturing his former neighbor while holding her captive for nearly two weeks.

Jeffrey Allan Maxwell is charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault. If convicted, he would face up to life in prison.

An emergency room doctor testified Tuesday the woman had a broken arm, head injury and multiple bruises after she was rescued in March.

Jurors saw pictures of a deer-skinning device the woman says Maxwell used to hoist her. They also heard a recording of her first interview with investigators.

Maxwell is accused of abducting the woman from her rural home and driving her some 100 miles to his house in Corsicana, about 50 miles south of Dallas.

Testimony resumes Wednesday.
