WEATHERFORD, Texas (AP) — Jurors have heard an audio-recorded interview of a Texas man telling investigators he never planned to kill his ex-neighbor after he kidnapped and sexually assaulted her.

Jeffrey Allan Maxwell is also heard saying that he thought about freeing her — but didn't because of the bruises he'd caused.

The recording of Maxwell's interview with investigators last March was played Thursday at his trial. He faces up to life in prison if convicted of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault.

He's heard saying that he abducted the woman and drove her to his Corsicana home, about 50 miles south of Dallas. He says he sexually assaulted her on a rack used to clean hogs.

She escaped 12 days later when authorities went to his house to question him about her disappearance.
