ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada (AP) — Former Grenada Prime Minister George Brizan has died.

Political colleagues say the 69-year-old Brizan died Saturday at a Grenada hospital after a long battle with diabetes.

Prime Minister Tillman Thomas issued a statement describing him as a “great contributor to our society.”

Brizan served as prime minister for four months in 1995 following the resignation of Prime Minister Nicholas Braithwaite.

Brizan’s National Democratic Congress lost all of its parliamentary seats in the 1995 vote.
