NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut police say a hospital maintenance worker charged with shooting two supervisors was disciplined by one of them before the attack.

Sixty-four-year-old Victor Valcarcel (vahl-CAR’-sell) was arrested Wednesday night shortly after the shootings at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain. He is expected to be arraigned in state court Thursday on attempted murder and assault charges.

Police say the victims, Robert Barucci (bah-ROO’-chee) and Lynn Trask, remain hospitalized in critical condition with apparent life-threatening injuries.

New Britain police announced Thursday that Barucci had disciplined Valcarcel before the shooting. It wasn’t immediately clear why he had been disciplined.

Hospital officials say the shooting happened in an isolated maintenance area and patients were never in danger.

It’s not clear if Valcarcel has a lawyer. He’s detained on $1 million bail.
