JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — Prosecutors in New Jersey say the teenage son of a corrections officer used her service weapon to fatally shoot his younger half-brother.

The Jersey Journal (http://bit.ly/zonXM4) reports 12-year-old Hasson George was shot once in the chest inside the officer's Jersey City apartment Friday night. George was shot with a semi-automatic pistol issued to the corrections officer, 38-year-old Shaara Green-Simms, who works at the county jail.

Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio says George's body was discovered on a sidewalk, where he was pronounced dead. DeFazio says George was likely still alive when he was moved. But who moved him, when and why remains unclear.

Investigators have not ruled out that the shooting might have been an accident.

DeFazio says Green-Simms is the 14-year-old's mother and the boys have the same father.
