KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) — Police say two people have been killed and at least six others injured in an explosion in a busy area of Nepal’s capital.

Police officer Binod Singh says the explosion took place Monday in central Katmandu’s Babarmahal section, where a number of businesses are located.

The cause of the blast was not immediately known. Singh says police have cordoned the area and are investigating.

Last year, minority groups in southern Nepal demanding an autonomous region resorted to violence, with police accusing them of detonating bombs.

No group has claimed responsibility for Monday’s blast.
