HAVANA (AP) — The lawyer for a Cuban intelligence agent on probation in the U.S. has released a letter his client wrote to his gravely ill brother wishing the two might see each other again.

Rene Gonzalez was released from a U.S. federal penitentiary last year, and is now appealing a judge's decision that he must serve three years of probation in the United States before being allowed to return to Cuba.

Gonzalez has asked for special dispensation to visit his ailing brother, Robert. Prominent Cuban attorney Nuris Pinero says the Gonzalez family hopes that releasing the letter will help persuade U.S. authorities to grant the request.
