PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (AP) — The prime minister of Trinidad is facing a no-confidence vote organized by the island's opposition leader.
Legislators are scheduled to debate the motion against Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Friday afternoon.
Opposition leader Keith Rowley filed the motion last month after he accused the prime minister of failing to stimulate the economy and create jobs. He also accused her administration of corruption but didn't provide details.
It's the first time since Trinidad's independence that a no-confidence motion has been filed against a leader who has been in office for less than two years.
The People's Partnership party ousted the People's National Movement in the May 2010 elections.
