Dachau Survivor And Liberator Meet 6 Decades Later

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Philadelphia man who survived the Dachau concentration camp has connected with a local man who liberated the camp.

Eighty-three-year-old Ernie Gross says he got in touch with 87-year-old veteran Don Greenbaum from suburban Bala Cynwyd (KIN'-wood) to thank him.

Gross, who is originally from Romania, saw a newspaper article about Greenbaum's Army unit being at Dachau when it was liberated April 29, 1945.

The men were both at the camp that day but don't think they crossed paths. Last December, they met for the first time and are now friends.

Gross and Greenbaum give talks about their Holocaust experiences at local schools, synagogues and churches.

They're looking for other survivors and liberators of Dachau to tell their stories.
