BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — The Beverly Hills cupcake bakery Sprinkles has installed a cupcake vending machine at its flagship store that will dispense sweet frosting and cake in snack-size portions 24/7.

Founder and owner Candace Nelson says her company is rolling out the first high-tech cupcake vending machine Tuesday, with three more in the works for New York City by summer.

The ATM-like machine features a touchscreen and a robotic arm that pulls the cupcake of choice from a wall of single-serving boxes inside the store.

Nelson says the custom-built gadget is in response to demand for increased hours at the popular store.

The machines will be restocked throughout the day so the goods stay fresh.

She says she hopes the vending machines will give her stores an edge over the cupcake competition.
