Expert: Webcam Spy Suspect's Computer Used In Chat

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) — A Rutgers University computer system manager says it appears the computer of a student accused of using a webcam to spy on his roommate's intimate encounter with another man was in two video chats on Sept. 21, 2010.

That's the night prosecutors say Dharun Ravi (dah-ROON' RAH'-vee) tested his connection to prepare to attempt to spy on roommate Tyler Clementi. Clementi killed himself a day later.

Rutgers network analyst Timothy Hayes testified Tuesday in Ravi's hate-crime trial that it appears Ravi's computer was in web chats with other students between about 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., and went dark for about two hours later that night.

He says there's not data about Sept. 19, 2010, the night prosecutors say Ravi and another student did view snippets of the men's dorm room rendezvous.
