LOS ANGELES (AP) — Federal authorities say a former South Korean law enforcement officer has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle nearly 40,000 counterfeit erectile dysfunction pills in his golf bag and luggage.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement says the fake Viagra, Cialis and Levitra pills worth more than $700,000 were found when Kil Jun Lee arrived at Los Angeles International Airport from South Korea last month. The 71-year-old was taken into custody Wednesday at his Los Angeles apartment.

According to the criminal complaint, when Lee was asked by federal agents whether the medication was for his personal use, Lee told them that if he used all the pills it would kill him because he had a heart condition.

Lee is charged with trafficking in counterfeit goods.
