Swedish activists plan new Gaza convoy this year

STOCKHOLM (AP) — Swedish activists say they are planning another aid convoy to Gaza before the end of this year to protest Israel's blockade of the Palestinian territory.

The group Ship to Gaza Sweden said Tuesday it has bought a sailboat that would leave from the Nordic region and that ships from other groups may join along the way.

But group spokeswoman Victoria Strand said there won't be a large joint departure from one port because that proved difficult last year when a convoy was blocked by Greek authorities.

In 2010, Israeli commandos killed nine activists in a similar convoy, provoking an international outcry that forced it to ease its blockade of Gaza. It now allows imports of many consumer goods, but continues to bar some other imports and exports of manufactured goods.
