STURGEON BAY, Wis. (AP) — An 80-year-old woman can be heard on a flight recording calmly saying she is out of gas and needs to land quickly after her pilot husband died and left her flying a small plane.

Authorities released the 45-minute recording of Helen Collins and pilot Robert Vuksanovic, who flew beside her and gave her directions Monday at a northeastern Wisconsin airport.

Toward the end, she says her gas gauge showed "nothing" and one engine stopped functioning. Vuksanovic told her to power the other engine all the way up.

At one point, Vuksanovic can be heard asking someone to make sure a road was closed. That prompted Collins to ask, "Don't you have any faith in me?" He said didn't trust the drivers.

She landed safely, outside of a few minor injuries.
