How the major US stock indexes fared on Wednesday

The Dow Jones industrial average lost 125 points. It was only the second time this year the Dow has recorded a triple-digit decline.

The Dow Jones industrial average closed down 124.80, or 1 percent, at 13,074.75.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index finished down 14.42, or 1 percent, at 1,398.96.

The Nasdaq composite index lost 45.48, or 1.5 percent, to 3,068.09

For the week so far:

The Dow is down 137.29 points, or 1 percent.

The S&P 500 is down 9.51 points, or 0.7 percent.

The Nasdaq is down 23.48 points, or 0.8 percent.

For the year so far:

The Dow is up 857.19 points, or 7 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 141.36, or 11.2 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 462.94, or 17.8 percent.
