An 8x10 photograph of Princess Diana, being touted as a "salacious teenage image of the future princess," is up for auction by RR Auctions in New Hampshire.

The Daily Mail reports that the picture, never before been published (perhaps following orders of the handwriting on the photo), was taken at a ski resort in 1979 or 1980 with an unidentified man when the late princess was 18 or 19. "It’s an intimate photo - I don’t know the man in the picture and he could be a friend or a boyfriend," said Eric Caren, owner of Carren Archive, the firm that has released the photo to RR Auctions.

The image fell into the hands of the Carren Archive by chance seven years ago, when the Daily Mirror sold them photos from its archive. The Daily Mirror had held on to the photo since February 26, 1981, purchasing it only two days before Princess Diana's engagement. "My guess is that it was a privately taken photograph that the Mirror purchased but for some reason did not publish. Why the heck not I don’t know - I don’t know if it was pressure from the Royal family or an internal decision," said Carren.

RR Auctions expects the photo to bid for at least $1,200.
