The conversation this Sunday paid diligence to a week of tragedies both at home and abroad, but the Republican campaign to defund Obamacare amid a the looming government shutdown took precedence. The most buzzed-about moment was undoubtedly Sen. Ted Cruz's appearance on Fox News Sunday, where his muddled plan to defund Obamacare confused host Chris Wallace and was later shot down by Brit Hume and Karl Rove. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on "Fox News Sunday": Republicans should see if Harry Reid is prepared to "shut down the military" in order to "force Obamacare on the American people" Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD.) on "This Week": Republican move to defund Obamacare after using it to balance the budget is a "hoax" Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) on "Face the Nation": "We don't have the ability" to stop and defund Obamacare. "It'd be nice if we did. I'd be in the fight"  NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre on "Meet the Press": The problem with the Navy Yard massacre was that "there weren't enough good guys with guns" Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger on "Face the Nation": When it comes to Syria negotiations, "you can trust the Russians to pursue their own interests"
