Who knew "Extra" was such a forum for political debate?

In an interview on the entertainment newsmagazine show, former vice-presidential candidate and current "Amazing America" TV personality Sarah Palin told host Mario Lopez that Hillary Clinton's impending grandmotherhood "will kind of broaden her worldview."

She amplified her statement: "I think anyone who is a grandparent starts looking even further down the road. We start thinking about things like the $17 trillion debt our nation is under. We're going to hand that off to our grandkids to pay off for our shortsighted thinking today? That's not right. That's not fair to our grandkids. Hopefully, she'll start thinking along those terms too."

Palin assumed a sarcastic tone of voice when she remarked that Chelsea Clinton is pregnant with "a baby! It's a real baby! It's not just some disposable something -- and I know that's going to be controversial." A grin played across her face. "But those who perhaps get in this position of a parent or grandparent realize that sanctity of life, how innocent and precious it is, and of all places, it should be in the womb that these babies are protected. So maybe even on a social issue like that, she'll open her eyes."

Lopez, best known for his role on "Saved by the Bell," had no follow-up questions to Palin's provocative statements -- which would seem to imply that the former secretary of state's own pregnancy had failed to alert her to the sanctity of life, and entirely to elide Clinton's own stated belief that abortion should be "safe, legal, and rare." (Those anchors who might be positioned to follow up most avidly with Palin may well have turned their attention to newsier interview subjects.) He did, though, ask Palin when she will decide if she's running for president in 2016. Palin says that it'll be some time down the road! As we wait for her presidential campaign and for Hillary Clinton's change of heart on abortion, "Amazing America" will be airing on the Sportsman Channel; check your local listings.
