In a front page story castigating President Obama for not using phrases like "Islamic terror" in describing religious extremists like ISIS, the New York Post ran an depicting a blindfolded president.
"Islamic terror? I just don't see it," the headline read:
In an address on violent extremism yesterday, Obama explained that he does not refer to groups like ISIS as "Islamic" because doing so would grant terrorists "religious legitimacy" and play into the narrative that the West is at war with Islam.
The Post blasted that approach, writing, They’re burning and beheading victims in the name of Islam, but President Obama delivered a major speech Wednesday on combating violent extremism — while refusing to use the words 'Muslim terrorists.'"
The paper's criticism dovetails with that of many conservatives, who seem to forget that Obama's rhetoric echoes that of former President George W. Bush.
