NEW YORK (AP) — The stock market is closing slightly lower in light trading as traders look ahead to a busy week for company earnings.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 80 points, or 0.5 percent, to 17,977 Monday.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index slipped nine points, or 0.5 percent, to 2,092. The Nasdaq composite fell seven points, or 0.2 percent, to 4,988.

Bond prices didn't move much. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note held steady at 1.95 percent.
